Difference between Natural Draft and Forced Draft Cooling Towers

Difference between Natural Draft and Forced Draft Cooling Towers

Due to continuous mechanical processes, industrial processes and machinery generate huge amounts of heat which makes dissipation a necessary task for efficient functioning. The heat needs to be emitted out in the environment, which is done by a heat exchange process. This becomes the basis of a cooling tower technology. Cooling tower is a heat rejecting system put into use since the 20th Century but unfortunately many people are not aware about cooling towers. Specialized heat exchanger that brings air and water into direct contact with each other to help reduce the water's temperature. While this process takes place, a small amount of water is evaporated.

To understand the difference between Natural Draft Cooling Tower and Forced Draft Cooling Tower we need to understand what each of them is separate.

Natural Draft Cooling Tower

As the name suggests, natural draft cooling tower manufacturer create cooling tower that rely on natural convention to circulate the air completely through the tower, which then cools with the help of cold water. Air movement takes place because of difference in density between the air that enters inside and the one that is already inside within the tower. The warm and moist air is denser as compared to the cool air and therefore, it rises through the tower. The dry and cool air from outside the tower will fall in, creating a constant cycle of air flow.
Natural draft cooling tower manufacturer in Delhi create cooling towers that operate on the stack effect. Stack effect makes the hot air in the tower rise, which is known as the natural draft. The natural draft cooling towers (also known as ‘Iterson’) uses the same principles as the forced draft cooling towers for removing the low-potential heat that is generated during the production process but with a difference. The cooling towers created by the natural draft cooling tower manufacturer have the fan unit is missing in this one, as the heat removal from this type of tower is completed using a natural draft. Natural draft cooling towers are mostly used in industrial spaces where the total heat rate elevates to a level of approximately 450 MW. The natural draft Cooling Tower Manufacturer gives the draft by height and dimensions of the stack, which reduces the operating costs and energy consumption costs of the company. Amongst being cost effective natural draft has some more advantages, such as a long service life, low maintenance demands, and low noise emissions.

Even though natural draft have great advantages, there are still some disadvantages that drive us towards the use of forced draft cooling tower, such as large overall dimensions which cause difficulties with aesthetics and require large areas for tower installation.

Forced Draft Cooling Tower

A forced draft cooling tower manufacturer designs a cooling tower like a Natural Draft but equipped with fans. The fans installed in the forced draft cooling towers at the air inlet, is for the forced-draft movement or on a deck above the fills that help to induce air flow.

Forced draft cooling towers created by forced draft Cooling Tower Manufacturer consists of an exhaust fan that is placed at the base of the cooling tower. The way the fan is placed in a forced draft cooling tower in Delhi creates an overpressure. In this forced draft cooling tower both axial and centrifugal fans can be used. Increased air velocity, caused due to the installation of fans in forced draft cooling tower in Delhi, helps to create a compact design. Forced draft are used for both power station and process cooling applications. Forced draft cooling towers specially design these cooling towers to handle zinc sulphate solutions or highly corrosive liquids. The forced draft cooling towers in Delhi are equipped with distribution in highly resistant material.

This type of cooling tower has some advantages which cannot be ignored such as no recirculation is required which saves time and energy. The investment costs are lower in comparison with natural draft cooling towers and Low energy consumption due to the installation; are all advantages of installing a forced draft cooling tower.
After knowing about both types of cooling towers it can be concluded that both types are great for heat rejection depending on the requirement of the client.
